Your Child's "Next Step" in a Dedicated, Hands-On Setting

At NextStep, we're pleased to now offer Center-Based ABA Therapy - a structured, clinic-style service delivered in a purpose-designed facility, enabling high-intensity, focused intervention and skill-generalization in a socialized, sensory-optimized environment.

Why choose Center-Based Therapy?

  • Consistent Environment: A dedicated location solely for therapy, minimizing environmental distractions and maximizing focus on learning and growth.
  • Change of Context: Ideal for children who benefit from a change of context (outside of home or school) and can engage in longer blocks of programming.
  • Peer Interaction: Facilitates peer-interaction opportunities (when appropriate) and group skill-building, while still maintaining individualized treatment.
  • High Intensity: Supports higher therapeutic intensities (e.g., 20+ hours per week) in a structured environment, which can accelerate progress toward communication, social and functional-life goals.
  • Professional Environment: Enables ease of monitoring, equipment use, program materials, and consistent supervision by experienced BCBAs onsite.

What our Center-Based Program includes

Assessment & Planning

  • Initial BCBA-led intake including direct observation in the center, caregiver interview, VB-MAPP/Vineland (or alternate) data review, and baseline behavior/skill assessment.
  • Development of an individualized treatment plan (ITP) with measurable, data-driven goals aligned to your child's strengths, needs, and family priorities (consistent with your in-home and school-based services standards).
  • Weekly supervision schedule, fidelity checks, and ongoing program review for service integrity and outcome monitoring.

Therapy Sessions

  • Sessions delivered in our bright, safe, and sensory-considered center environment by our skilled Behavior Technicians (RBT or BT level) under direct supervision of a BCBA.
  • Communication & language development: Mand/request training, intraverbals, conversational skills
  • Social & play skills: Including small group peer interaction when appropriate
  • Daily living and independence tasks: Mealtime, self-care routines, transition skills
  • Behavior support: Functional analysis / FBA-informed plans, teaching replacement behaviors, self-regulation skills
  • Data collection during every session, with progress graphs, weekly supervision reviews, and monthly summary reports.

Family & Caregiver Collaboration

  • Weekly or biweekly caregiver training/coaching sessions to ensure skills are generalized to home, school, and community settings.
  • Regular check-ins with families to review data, adjust goals, and ensure alignment with IEP/ISP/BIP needs when applicable.
  • Ongoing transition planning so skills acquired in the center generalize to other environments (home, school, community).

Scheduling & Logistics

  • Services offered Monday through Friday during clinic hours, with flexibility for after-school or extended-day slots (as staffing allows).
  • Session length tailored to each child (e.g., 2-4 hour blocks, multiple blocks per day as clinically indicated).
  • We coordinate with your insurance/Medicaid benefits and handle authorizations, verifying coverage and assisting with documentation (consistent with our in-home and school-based model).
  • Optional drop-off/pick-up arrangements may be offered. Families may remain onsite for caregiver training or may observe sessions in a viewing area depending on program setup.

Facility Features

  • Clinically-designed therapy room(s) with age-appropriate materials, sensory-friendly spaces, quiet-break rooms, and group-skill areas.
  • Secure check-in/check-out system, appropriate staffing ratios (per BACB / state regulations), and supervised many-session overview by senior clinical leadership.
  • Compliance with HIPAA/FERPA, background-checked and trained staff, ongoing professional development, and service fidelity monitoring.

  • Compliance & excellence: We adhere to the highest standards (BACB supervision, HIPAA/FERPA protocols, state regulations) and continuously monitor service quality.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What age range is eligible for center based therapy?

We typically serve children aged 18 months to 18 years, though we assess on a case-by-case basis depending on need, ability, and service goals.

Is center-based therapy covered by insurance or Medicaid?

Yes - we accept New Hampshire Medicaid and many major private insurance plans. Our team will verify your specific benefits and guide you through any authorization or billing requirements.

How many hours per week are recommended?

Therapeutic intensity is based on your child's needs (assessment results, VB-MAPP/Vineland scores, behavioral support needs). Many center-based clients engage in 20-40 hours per week of therapy, either as a standalone or alongside in-home/school-based services.

What if I already receive in-home or school-based services with NextStep?

Center-based programming is designed to integrate seamlessly with your existing services - your BCBA will coordinate across all environments to avoid duplication, promote generalization, and align program goals.

Can I observe or participate during sessions?

Yes - caregivers are encouraged to participate in orientation, training, and periodic session-observations (via viewing window or remote video feed) so you can apply strategies at home and track your child's progress.

How long do children typically stay in the center-based program?

Every child's journey is unique. Some remain in the center for 6-12 months before transitioning to fewer hours or moving to a home/school-based model; others may stay longer depending on their support needs. Our goal is meaningful, measurable progress and maximizing independence.
